As part of the campaign “16 Days Against Violence”, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported the art project “This is not a game” of the Ukrainian representative office of the International Organization “White Ribbon” by installing information stands in the parliament building.

“Countering violence is an issue that should not be put on hold for too long. It is extremely relevant since an unprecedented outbreak of domestic violence has been recorded, with mainly women and children as victims, during the coronavirus pandemic and quarantine restrictions around the world and in Ukraine. Right now, at this historical stage, when there are such complex challenges as the negative consequences of COVID-19, we need to search for effective solutions and tools that can stop this wave of violence. It is necessary not to keep silent and tolerate violence and discrimination either in public or private spaces,” said Olena Kondratiuk, Vice-Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

The campaign aims to emphasize the importance of countering violence. The idea of the exhibition is to depict violence in the form of a computer game emphasizing the blurred boundaries between the virtual and real worlds. In an allegorical form, violence is depicted in stories with various forms of expression – physical, sexual, psychological (emotional), economic.

“The information support provided by the Verkhovna Rada will contribute to focusing the attention on the topic of violence. After all, raising this issue among parliamentarians will strengthen lobbying for countering violence at the state level. This, accordingly, will help not to leave women alone with this problem,” commented Tetyana Ramus, Ambassador of the White Ribbon Foundation in Ukraine.
