The new White Ribbon Ukraine app will bring together those who are in trouble and provide them with support and assistance where and when they need it. I sincerely hope that this new tool will provide victims of domestic violence with the knowledge they need to protect themselves and their families. The app provides the victims with resources for assistance and the opportunity to notify the police or relevant authorities if they are in danger. Doing this “with no words” to avoid even more violence from the side of your abuser,” says Tetyana Ramus, Goodwill Ambassador of White Ribbon Ukraine.

The WhiteRibbonUA platform operates as a mobile application that can be downloaded from the AppStore or Google Play on any smartphone, regardless of the software update status.

The functionality of the WhiteRibbonUA platform is divided into three areas: emergency assistance to the victim, keeping records of the facts, and providing information to identify signs of domestic violence.

The main function of the app is a direct communication with the National Police of Ukraine. This provides victims of domestic violence with instant communication with law enforcement agencies in the event of a dangerous situation.

The app also provides a quick search for a support center. In a special section, victims will be able to determine their location and the location of the nearest support center, police station, or emergency services.

Additionally, the WhiteRibbonUA platform contains tools to keep records of domestic violence. The “My diary” function will help to track, record, and document all the cases of violence committed against the victims.

“Often abusers deprive their victims of any possible personal space. Taking this into account, it is impossible to understand the functionality of the app even if the victim’s phone is being checked. This additional security function protects against provoking the aggressor,” adds Tetyana Ramus, Goodwill Ambassador of White Ribbon Ukraine.

The digital library for detecting signs of domestic violence in the app offers:

• Information on common types of abuse and examples of domestic violence;
• Confidential relationship status test “I’m in danger”;
• Section “Internet Security Guide” to protect yourself and stay safe in the digital world (Internet, social networks, etc.);
• Informational materials about various forms of domestic violence, types of support, tips on how to get out of a violent relationship.
